13" MacBook Air - The Complete Package

The predecessor of this particular model of MacBook Air did not have many drawbacks and most of the critics gave it a 5-star review. Just when you thought there isn't much to improve about in it, Apple have come out with the new 13" MacBook Air which is better than its predecessor in a few aspects. Apple is famous for their attention to detail and that is reflected in the new edition of MacBook Air. It is not for nothing that Apple has reported profits in consecutive quarters. If you don't feel like spending on it, at least rent it from your Raleigh laptop rental company and experience its feel.

The new features you can see in this release of the MacBook Air is the backlit keyboard, significantly powerful Core-i5 processor, the new Thunderbolt port and Apple's new Thunderbolt display.

Design is Splendid as Expected

While carrying out the 13" MacBook Air from your Raleigh laptop rental company, you are sure to attract some attention. Although it weighs a little more than its 11" counterpart (which is expected), it is still one of the lightest laptops available. It weighs 3 pounds, slightly higher than the Sony VAIO Z, which weighs 2.6 pounds. The sleek body measures 0.11 inches at its thinnest point and 0.68 inches at its thickest point.

The notebook feels like a full-grown laptop in spite of its size. The magnetic latch, the unibody Aluminum construction and rounded corners gives this beautiful machine a futuristic and elegant look.

Performance

Apple has boosted the performance of this machine by upgrading the processor to the 1.7GHz ULV (ultra low-voltage) Core-i5 processor. In Geek bench (software used to evaluate the performance of laptop PCs), the 13" Air achieved a score of 5,860. This is higher than the 11" Air's score of 5,040 and not far behind the 13" MacBook Pro that scored 6,446. But keep in mind that the MacBook Pro is powered by a full voltage 2.3GHz Core-i5 processor. This factor has played a significant role in improving its Geek bench score.

In terms of general performance, the MacBook Air seems very fast and efficient. This is largely due to the fact that Apple has integrated Flash memory in the design. When waking up from sleep, the 13" Air resumes almost instantly and takes a record time of 17 seconds to boot up Mac OS X Lion. Another noteworthy point is the file transfer speed; the flash memory achieved a speed of 127 MBps which is truly mind-blowing.

Configuration Options

Apple provides a couple of options to you and your Raleigh laptop rental company with the 13" MacBook Air. The basic model comes with a 1.7GHz ULV Core-i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage. If you want higher performance, you can pay the extra $300 and upgrade to 1.8GHz Core-i7 processor and 256GB of flash memory. Unless you have to run some bulky applications, the basic model of the 13" MacBook Air works like a charm.
